How we help

We focus on how someone is positioned 24 hours a day, giving their body the support it needs to stay aligned, comfortable and healthy.

What is postural care?

Postural care protects body shape from the effects of gravity.

People who find it hard to move on their own often spend long hours in the same few positions. Over time, gravity can change the body’s shape. These changes can be predictable and affect comfort, health, and daily life.

Postural care looks at how a person is positioned across 24 hours, day and night. It promotes movement and function while providing support to help people stay aligned and comfortable.

Good postural care is all about balance and compromise. It protects body shape and symmetry while ensuring the person can still live the life they want both now and in the future.

The foundations of 24-hour postural care

Movement

Promote movement in daily life.

Daytime positioning

A supported, aligned posture when sitting, standing or relaxing.

Night-time positioning

Comfortable, specialist support at night, to protect body shape while the body rests.

The right equipment

Equipment from trusted suppliers that fits the person and their life.

Skills and knowledge

Families and support teams confidently make postural care part of their daily routine.

How we work

We work closely with each person, their family and their support team. Every plan follows the same cycle, and the cycle repeats as the person’s needs change.

The four stages of our postural care cycle: assess, equip, review and embed, which repeat as needs change.

1. Assess

We assess posture and measure body symmetry to see what the person needs now.

2. Equip

We find the right equipment from trusted suppliers, from off the shelf to fully bespoke.

3. Review

We review the plan and the equipment regularly, so support stays right as needs change.

4. Embed

We train families and support teams to make postural care part of daily life.
